The Game rejects plea deal

The Game rejected a Manhattan prosecutor's offer today (June 13) of a guilty plea for time already served.

The LA rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer last year.

He allegedly told a taxi driver that he was an undercover officer and convinced him to run a series of red lights.

"Why should he plead guilty to bogus charges for a non-jail sentence if he's innocent," said the rapper's attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, outside the courtoom.

"And he is innocent. It's rare that I have a 100 percent innocent defendant, but this is one."

A guilty plea could have ended the case against The Game, reports the Associated Press.

Lichtman said that charges were harrassment and a "new low" for the police. He added, "This case will end in a dismissal or an acquittal."

The Game also faces charges stemming from a Los Angeles incident in which he allegedly punched a man on an opposing basketball team and threatened him with a gun, as previously reported.
Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse claim Ivor Novello awards

Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse and Scissor Sisters were all winners at the 52nd Ivor Novello Awards today (May 24).

The Monkeys claimed the Album Award at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London for their 2006 debut LP 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'.

Singer Alex Turner, who was wearing a black and white striped top, was presented with the gong by The Clash legend Mick Jones, who joked: "A couple of years ago Arctic Monkeys supported us in Sheffield. Now look where they are."

Accepting the award, a humbled Turner added: "The boys are in bed so I have come down by myself.

"Whenever we've picked up awards before we've always gobbed off but I want to thank everybody for this award especially our managers Ian and [/b]Geoff[/b]. Without them no one would have heard our music."

But the band missed out in the category for Best Song Musically & Lyrically to Scott Matthews'' 'Elusive'.

Winehouse won the Best Contemporary Song section for 'Rehab', while Scissor Sisters' UK Number One single 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin'' was given the PRS prize for Most Performed Work.

Picking up her award Winehouse found herself having to tiptoe up to the microphone to speak.

She said: "Thank you all very much, I didn't even have time to get drunk, I've only been here about 15 minutes."

Sir Elton John, who co-wrote 'I Don't Feel Like Dancin''[/b], accepted the PRS prize for Most Performed Work with the Scissor Sisters.

Accepting the award he quipped: "Alex (Turner) if you want a lift back up to Sheffield, i'm going up by helicopter right now."

Other winners included Madonna, 'X Factor' winner Leona Lewis and Peter Gabriel, who picked up the coveted Lifetime Achievement gong.
